Show Description
Monday, Feb. 11, 9-10 p.m. EST, on PBS (PBS air dates and times vary, so check local listings): "The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski." I expected a few laughs from this comedy about growing up in the Midwest in the 1950s, written by Jean Shepherd, a humorist who is popular on public radio, the off-Broadway stage and college campuses. But I also expected the kind of pseudo-sophisticated put-downs of Middle America that too often pass for satire in the above-mentioned milieus. I was wrong, on both counts. This "American Playhouse" presentation has more than a few laughs, and no put-downs, a rare and wonderful combination!
