Jean Shepherd is many things to many men. On the radio (WOR, New York) and in off-Broadway theater (Look, Charlie), Shepherd In 1958 seemed, from time to time, to be a philosopher, a gifted impromptu monologist, a social satirist, an iconoclast, a comic, a jazz soloist whose words were his instrument. Whatever the role, Shepherd played it well, and as a result, his loyal following grew even larger and more diverse than it had been in previous years. He seemed, certainly, a natural choice for Jazz Personality of the year. | ||||||||||
