Another Shep Fan Lost
Gary 'silentshep' Hines ("Gary in California")
Shep fan Gary Hines who was an avid collector of Shep's shows, putting many of them on his youtube channel 'silentshep', passed away July 6, 2025. Over the years he accumulated a large collection of Shepherd's early (1961-1964) radio shows.
Shep's July 18, 1975 show about the "Alaska Parking Meter" inspired me to contact the Nome Nugget, to validate his telling of the story. Turns out he was reading the editorial from the June 24, 1975 paper verbatum, even giving them a plug for subscriptions.
Diana Haecker the Publisher/editor of The Nome Nugget was kind enough to respond to my request sending images from that edition of the paper.
The Nome Nugget was just recently awarded with the Best Weekly Newspaper in Alaska honors at Alaska Press Club.
