I was in the Coast Guard stationed in Groton Connecticut in 1956 when I discovered Shep's Sunday night show on WOR. Man, could I relate. He and I threw many an invective from my barracks window for the next couple of years when I was discharged and moved back to Texas. I have followed his career since then and have recorded Christmas Story and all his PBS movies for my kids and grand kids.

Read his Playboy short stories

When I was a young teen I found an old Playboy magazine while rumaging through a trash dump near my grandparent's house. Of course the photos were great but when I finally got around to examining the rest of the magazine I happened upon a short story, "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories". It was like I connected to something that completely struck all kinds of chords inside of me. The humor, emotion, feelings all touched me and made my laugh, cry, and completely understand what Ralph was going through. I can read it again and again and enjoy it more each time. EXCELSIOR!!
