Lois Nettleton Estate Sales

Before and during their marriage, Shep and Lois exchanged letters and postcards quite often while he or she was traveling. Lois kept many of these along with Line Drawings, and various news clippings, and articles. They were all auctioned off in early 2009 on eBay. Many of the buyers have shared their purchases below.

Hotel IKOYI
LAGOS, NI.

Hi Babe!

Just got back from the bush in Eastern Nigeria and it is something not to be believed! I’ll have shows the rest of the year. What a place this is. There are so many things to write about that I can’t even begin on a card. Am taking a run to Ghana and Cammeroon this week. The people are absolutely great! Will arrive home Monday around 5 PM – would love to see you at airport.

The line drawing on the left was drawn while Shep was in Munich. David Howell not only won the drawing on eBay, but was able to locate the buildings and throught the magic of Google Earth was able to recreated the view!

In the background are the towers of Frauenkirche Dom zu unserer lieben Frau
("Cathedral of Our Blessed Lady")

It is the largest church in the Bavarian capital of Munich.

The drawing of the church on the left was done on the back of Hotel Taft (New Haven, Ct) stationary. Checking Google Earth, and Microsoft Maps and assuming Shep had drawn the church as a view from his hotel window, I was able to 'find' what may be the church he drew since it is at the right angle and drawn from the rear. See the view at right.
