Based on the movie "A Christmas Story", this book combines the chapters from the two books the movie was based on - "In God We Trust - All Others Pay Cash" and "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters"
Contrary to what it appears to be, the book is not a transcript of the screenplay or even close. It is merely a reprint of the short stories in their original printed form.
Although Jean Shepherd is listed as the author, the book was printed 4 years after he passed away and was put together by the estate. He only wrote the stories contained in the book.
On October 26, 2004 an audio books version was released by RH Audio on CD and Cassette, narrated by Dick Cavett.
