It's nighttime in the 1960s in any major East Coast American town. The AM station WOR is being listened to by a young person who's supposed to be asleep, a portable radio tucked under the pillow, as the chuckling, conspiratorial voice of a magical monologist begins to speak, after having completed raucously off-key renditions of the barroom evergreens "Margie" and "Ragtime Cowboy Joe."
