Shep often referred to some of his more fanatical listeners as Coo Coo birds. He would read letters from people who made offers for him to come live with them, ladies who thought he was purposely flying over their houses, and a G.I. who had a friend take him up in his plane every night so he could listen to Shep over Ft Knox, Kentucky.
